Sue Allan - sewsister

A little bit delayed in posting about Sue Allan's work, but at least better late than never! Sue was on the stand next to me at the Contemporary Textiles Fair and aside from being a very lovely person, cheery, smiley and bubbly, she is also a very talented lady!

My pics probably aren't as good as they should be and don't do justice to Sue's work, so apologies, but believe me her work is lovely.

Full of charm, quirky and individual. Her art dolls art just exquisite, such detail and so beautiful. Her sock and fabric creatures are all such characters and full of personality, you need to have one in your life!

Her wall art pieces are also fab. She has stitched collage fabric pieces as well as these quirky button ones below. All of the buttons Sue has made herself before assembling them as art pieces.
Introducing you to.................................... Lucy! My lovely parents and sister bought me her, Lucy is just too great for words! And Sue was happy that Lucy had gone to a good home, what a nice thing to say.
So please take some time out and nip on over to Sue's website and take a look at her work - Sewsister
You won't be disappointed.

And finally totally unconnected! A pic of the scrummy (according to my Mum & Dad!) lemon and lime drizzle cake I baked and took home to them the other weekend. Mum was disappointed I hadn't put a pic of it on my blog so she could show her friend, so here it is Mum! x

A Grand ol' weekend.........

What a Grand weekend!
I traveled home this weekend as it was Mothers Day. So thought I would post a few pics.

These are the cards my sister and I sent my Mum. We always seem to send similar things without any conference! my Mum thinks it's all rather spooky at how similar we are sometimes, considering we're just siblings and are 4 years apart. Perhaps it's because we're both born on the 13th??!!! cue the spooky music!

This is the gorgeous textile art work that my sis and I bought for my Mum for Mothers Day. It's a piece from Heidi Rhodes. Her work is so vibrant and full of colour. Go check out her website to see some of her work. I'd seen her work at MADE before and actually got to meet her at the Contemporary Textile Fair, she is lovely.
Some cute little blooms from the garden, love primrose's and primula when they appear at this time of the year.

And the meal I cooked for Mum, she chose what she wanted and away I whisked in to the kitchen. So we had Mediterranean chicken parcels, accompanied by lemon and coriander couscous.

Followed by a fruit salad containing blueberries, raspberries and mango which we had with a scoop of ice cream.

Perhaps these aren't the best pics in the world! but there's a major reworking going on at my parents, with the ripping out of cupboards etc for the arrival of a new kitchen. So there was no styling of food to be photographed to be done!
I hope you all had a good weekend too ;0 x

My time at the fair.........

Hello!
First of all I want to say a BIG thank you to all of you for the lovely words of encouragement you left me, in your comments for the fair on my last post. So v lovely and sweet of all of you, so thank you! x

Well as you will see from below I've included a few pics of my stand for you to see. It was a wonderful venue, an old gothic church with glorious stained glass windows (oops forgot to take a pic!). The organisers were great and the exhibitors were lovely. Such a great atmosphere amongst everyone there, exhibitors and visitors alike.

I had a lot of lovely comments about my work, sold a good amount (considering I was new, it was my first larger selling fair and the current economic situation for so many of us) and have met some lovely people.

my stand (not the best pic sorry!)

my skinny leg birds tweeting in their lovely cage

two abstract stitched works

my thrifted towel drier all spruced up and displaying some more skinny leg birds and clutch purses

some petite purses nestled at the bottom of my drawer unit 'borrowed' from my mum (which two little older ladies had their eye on and wanted to buy!)

It has been a great experience, good exposure for me and my work  and I've met some lovely people, I'll be posting about one of my neighbours at the fair this week - the lovely Sue! but more about that later. It is definitely something I'll apply to do again, as Sue said you 'have to do stuff to get stuff' (or words to that effect!) which is true, if I don't get out there no one will know I exist!
I want to say a BIG thank you too, to my lovely Mum & Dad and my bootiful Sister for coming to the fair and supporting me. I wouldn't change you for the world ;0 x

So now it is time for a spring clean and tidy up, a little move around of furniture in the workspace and time to set fresh goals and get on with ticking items on the list of to do's!
And making a trip home this weekend for Mothers Day, see you soon Mum for some cooking, me for you of course! ;0 x

Here are a few pics of some of the last pieces I've made for it.

Enjoy your weekend everyone, as its nearly here! ;0

small break.......

Well hello, a sneaky little post from me! I took a little breather today from working on finishing my work for the textiles fair. Well you know what they say, all work and no play makes jack (or jill!) a dull boy (girl!).

I took the time to make muffins with the lovely man (he works shifts so he was off) and watch him feel especially pleased with himself at the loaf of bread that he made. You can't beat a bit of baking for a feel good factor! And what aromas in the flat, Mmmmmmmm...........

Above, was me getting close up and smelling the great aroma of fresh baking! I can only eat the bread and sadly not the muffins, as although I'm not religious I decided to give up sweets (of the sweet shop kind), cakes, biscuits, chocolate and crisps for lent. I have a bit of a sweet tooth at times and I feel it's always good to give something up and see if you have the will power to survive! roll on Easter for a big fat bite of something chocolatey!!! hehe
And I had to include some pictures of my lovely tete a tete, from bud to flower, so my Mum can see it! Just a small little daffodil to make you smile, such a gorgeous sunny yellow.

Have a good week, I better get back to that grindstone! x ;)
